I was a big fan of the Kobe 9 Nike shoes, especially the Flyknit High Elite version. It was comfortable and stood out from the rest of the shoes like Jordans, Lebrons and KDs during 2014, due to its one of the kind look. I picked up the Kobe 9 elite All Star, Inspiration and Perspectives, as well as the Kobe 9 lows of Michael Jackson, Bruce Lee and Philippines tribute colorways, and even the EXT Mid. Damn, I spent so much money. So I was a bit excited when 2015 came and they announced the new Kobe X.
At first, it didn’t look too different and it seems plain. It just have an open weaved upper with a mesh with the Nike swoosh on the side, and the tongue that looks like snake scales to form the Kobe symbol. Then the heels contains 4 red stitching, which symbolizes his surgery he got in the previous year, on one foot and his logo on the other. The major difference would be the Lunarlon cushioning which would make the comfort factor super high. Even though it was super comfortable, I felt that the design was basic. My excitement just went down.
Aside from the basic design, I did like the Blue Lagoon colorway, which they call the “5 AM Flight” which was inspired by Kobe’s early morning dive to the swimming pool. The color stood out and it still broke people’s neck. I don’t have much blue in my collection, so adding these would be the perfect fit.
