Dayside at B&H Bild Expo ‘23
When B&H Photo Video store announced that they were doing their annual Bild Expo at Jacob Javits Center, I was surprised that it has gotten really huge! And then they announced several popular world renowned photographers and video creators, like Casey Neistat, I had to be there. I also had to bring my Leica Q since they have several studio shoots that I would like to test out with my camera. But first off, I do need some inspiration, so I wanted to attend the Casey Neistat panel since I was a fan of his since I started uploading videos on Youtube. This time he got sponsored by the company Joby, known by their popular Gorilla Pod that Casey popularized, to speak for this panel. I took an opportunity to take some pictures with my Leica Q, take a look:
Casey spoke about his upbringing, showing one of his first videos that he uploaded on Youtube that change the trajectory of his career from a filmmaker to an internet content creator. The on where he was riding and crashing his bike in the bike lane. He also showed his famous Nike videos and other viral videos. And of course, he talks about how he was very creative with all the resources he had during the day. So partnering up with Joby was a match made in heaven since he loves using their products while the company gets great marketing from his fan base.
Aside from that panel, I wanted to check out the Show Floor since I was looking forward on testing my Leica Q camera in the mock up studio shoots. They had nice sets, good looking models, and cool props. Here are some that I think turned out well:
I really like how they turned out. The only issue with the Leica Q is the fixed 28mm lens, it’s a bit too wide and I needed to either move forward to get close or take advantage of the f/1.7 and include some photographers in the fore ground to create a nice depth of field look. Overall, I’m satisfied with how it looks.
I didn't spend too much time in the expo since I had work. But I had a great time and will definitely check out more panels and activities the next time around.
